Job Description
Duties:
- Medical Technologist, should be competent, qualified and adequately trained to perform assigned duties.
- Medical Technologist shall provide clinical laboratory generalist duties in all areas of the laboratory including phlebotomy,urinalysis,coagulation,hematology,immunohematology,blood gases, microbiology and chemistry.
- Medical Technologist shall perform a wide variety of manual and automated procedures, including moderate and complex analysis. Incumbent at this level develops, performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates, and validates the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results. Testing procedures are performed on a variety of biological specimens using manual or automated techniques and require a broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. The work performed will be in Chemistry (including endocrinology and toxicology), coagulation, hematology, immunology, immunohematology, blood gases, urinalysis, microbiology, and phlebotomy. Such position includes requirements to monitor quality control systems and measures; collaborate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients; and provide education for laboratory and other healthcare professionals, and others in the medical center setting including the public
- Medical Technologist (s) shall follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care.
- Medical Technologist (s) shall make every effort to prevent patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care.
- Certification: All Medical Technologist staff shall be Certified by the American Society of Clinical pathology (ASCP), Board of certification or Board of Registry
- Education and experience: All Medical Technologist must have a Bachelor of Science degree in medical laboratory science or a related science and at least one year of clinical laboratory experience..
- Medical Technologists, medical laboratory technician and Health Technicians/phlebotomists shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government's requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently. Contractor shall provide documents upon request to verify current and ongoing competency, skills, certification and/or licensure related to the provision of laboratory services.
- Contractor shall provide verifiable evidence of all educational and training experiences including any gaps in educational history for all Contractor's laboratory staff shall be responsible for abiding by the rules, and regulations that govern medical staff behavior
- FTE is defined by VA as a minimum of 80 hours every two weeks and does not include holidays.
- The minimum number of Board-Certified laboratory staff required to be on site daily is 8 to be on site at the same time as defined in paragraph Hours of Operation in this section.
- The Contractor shall be responsible for providing coverage to the VA during periods of vacancies of the Contractor's personnel due to sick leave, personal leave, vacations and additional coverage as required.
