***The Department of Corrections is currently offering a hire incentive bonus of up to $15,000.00 to newly hired Mental Health Clinicians 1, Mental Health Clinicians 2. The incentive bonus will be paid in two equal installments, minus mandatory deductions. The first installment will be paid 90 calendar days after the first day of employment, and upon demonstrating an overall mid-acceptable performance rating. The second and final installment will be paid upon the employee's successful completion of the probationary period. Payments will be due within sixty (60) calendar days of such request. To receive an incentive, employees are expected to agree to a three-year term of employment with the Department of Corrections.***

What you will be doing:
Under the supervision of the Mental Health Clinician 3, this position will:
  • Provide a comprehensive therapeutic release plan for offenders who experience severe mental illness in preparation for their return to the community following incarceration.
  • Use the Assess Plan Identify Coordinate (APIC) model and work with DOC institutional clinicians, community behavioral health providers, SUD treatment providers, other social service agencies, and the re-entrants themselves to develop a release plan commensurate to their needs.
  • Translate each client’s diagnostic profile, history, and individual goals into a clinically sound plan that will best position the client for smooth transition and sustainable lifestyle.
  • Require clinical knowledge and skills, however, the position does not involve providing clinical services.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is located primarily at the Department of Corrections Anchorage Central Office in the Robert B. Atwood building. This position will work closely with a team of correctional officers, mental health clinicians and medical staff. This position works Monday through Friday

Minimum Qualifications

Mental Health Clinician 1:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in counseling, psychology, social work, child guidance, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field.


Mental Health Clinician 2:

Master’s degree from an accredited college in counseling, psychology, social work, child guidance, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field.

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities in

  • Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
  • Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
