Department/Program: New York State Licensed Article 31 Mental Health Clinic offers a full array of outpatient mental health evaluation and treatment for children and adults. Our team of experienced Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Art Therapists, and Music Therapists have special expertise in providing trauma-informed and culturally responsive treatment for families and children who are on child welfare, and who have chronic illness, developmental disabilities, and or other special needs. Our strength-based and family-centered treatment approach is valuable to healing and growth.

Title of Position: Mental Health Intake Coordinator

Position Type: Full Time

Pay Range: $60,000 - $65,000

Location: 825 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10019, Bronx Satellite Office: 1775 Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY 10453

Department: Article 31 Mental Health Clinic

Description of Responsibilities:

Delivers mental health treatment services in our MHOTRS Mental Health Clinic Program within our agency.

Primarily conducts intake and assessments and meets with Clinic Administration to determine medical necessity and appropriate case assignment across available clinicians. Provides review of clinical records to ensure compliance with the Office of Mental Healths regulations related to admissions criteria (i.e., medical necessity) and justification for ongoing treatment.

Collaborates closely with clients assigned social workers in Foster Care, Preventive Services, and NACs other social and support services departments.

  • Receives and responds to referrals for clinic services in a timely manner from NAC departments and the outside community;
  • Serves as the initial contact to engage referred clients in the intake process;
  • Coordinates with case planners and referral sources to gather background/corroborative information and encourage compliance with treatment recommendations.
  • Conducts mental health assessments and develops treatment plans & semi-annual treatment plan reviews (for own clients only)
  • Completes all required documentation including, but not limited to, contact forms, progress notes, treatment plans/reviews, psychosocial assessments, anecdotal notations, and other documentation as needed within prescribed timeframes (for own clients only)
  • Works with the NAC multidisciplinary team, the clients family, and other service providers in the community as appropriate to meet treatment goals and assure continuity of care;
  • Conducts mental health assessments and referrals to aid in the determination of medical necessity, eligibility, and recommendations for CFTSS and HCBS services;
  • Provides relevant supervision and training for trainees in scheduling and conducting intake assessments.
  • Conduct utilization chart reviews to ensure program compliance with all OMH regulations related to admissions and that medical necessity and justification for treatment are supported by accurate documentation in the record;
  • Provides psychotherapy sessions to assigned clients in NACs Mental Health Clinic, including individual and collateral sessions (5-10 clients)
  • Provides as-needed case management services for clients who are designated as *Medication-only and who are not associated with other NAC departments;

Practices within NACs integrated medical and mental health service delivery system, consulting with Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, Pediatricians, and Nursing staff.

  • Performs all duties in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, with NACs Mental Health Clinic Treatment Program Policy & Procedures Manual, and according to regulations of Managed Care providers.
  • Supervised by the Assistant Director of Mental Health
  • 35 hours/week, including Saturdays (preferred) and some evenings.

Must be available for both Manhattan & Bronx Satellite clinics.

Required Education and Experience:

Masters Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology. (Preferred: LCSW, LMSW, LMHC, PsyD, or PhD

Prior experience working with underserved children and their families in an MHOTRS / OMH Clinic or other community-based mental health clinics.

Should have experience who have experienced trauma or those involved in the child welfare system.

Valid NYS license required.

Required Skills:

Clinical Assessment Skills: Ability to conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including intake evaluations, to determine medical necessity and appropriate case assignments.

Collaboration and Teamwork: Strong skills in collaborating with various departments, such as Foster Care and Preventive Services, and working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent skills in engaging with clients, their families, and other service providers to meet treatment goals and ensure continuity of care.

Psychotherapy and Case Management: Proficiency in providing psychotherapy sessions and case management services.

Integrated Service Practice: Experience working within an integrated medical and mental health service delivery system and consulting with various health professionals like Psychiatrists and Pediatricians.

Time Management: Strong organizational and time management skills to efficiently handle the varied responsibilities and documentation requirements.

Preferred Skills:

The ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.

CASAC training and substance use treatment are a plus.
