Overview
This role serves as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring that complex metadata, governance requirements, and reporting logic are translated into clear, actionable documentation for an enterprise data catalog. The position focuses on simplifying technical concepts, improving metadata completeness, and supporting governance initiatives across core healthcare data domains.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of data management principles, including metadata, data quality, lineage, and reporting concepts.
- Ability to translate highly technical information into concise, accessible language for non technical audiences.
- Experience writing technical documentation and establishing documentation standards.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and enterprise reporting environments.
- Experience with SQL or other programming languages (preferred but not required).
- Experience with data quality or metadata tools (e.g., Experian, Collibra, Alation) is a plus.
- Understanding of core healthcare data structures such as patient, provider, encounters, and claims.
- Familiarity with clinical workflows and how they influence data lineage and reporting logic.
- Awareness of regulatory requirements including HIPAA, restricted data policies, and data retention standards.
- Comfort working with EHR driven data logic; experience with Epic is a plus.
Summary of Required Skills:
- 4 6 years in data governance or data management organizations.
- 2 3 years using SQL or Python.
- 1 2 years working with a data catalog platform.
- Experience in healthcare or clinical informatics environments.
Education
- Required: Bachelor's Degree
- Preferred: Degree in clinical informatics, sciences, math, statistics, healthcare management, or related fields
Key Responsibilities
- Translate technical concepts related to data assets, lineage, transformations, and reporting logic into clear, business friendly documentation.
- Gather detailed information from Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Research, and Privacy teams to ensure accurate representation of data sources, rules, and quality checks.
- Consolidate and summarize data rules for core domains such as patient and provider to improve accessibility for business users.
- Define and maintain documentation standards and processes required for data certification.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and completeness of metadata across the data catalog.
- Identify gaps in existing documentation and partner with teams to remediate them.
- Support governance and compliance efforts, including PHI/PII handling guidelines, restricted data policies, and data retention standards.
- Document core and semantic tables, enterprise metrics, and relationships between related metrics.
- Assist in retiring or remediating metrics lacking ownership or proper definitions.
- Develop artifacts that make data initiatives more understandable for both technical and business teams.
- Create and maintain data policies aligned with enterprise standards.
