Job Overview/Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Meteorologist to join our team. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting aircraft operations, research groups, and various meteorological programs. This role involves observing, recording, and reporting weather conditions, as well as managing upper-air sounding equipment and maintaining the long-term climatological database. The position also requires collaboration with research and technical teams to ensure the delivery of accurate and timely meteorological data.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe workplace and prioritize safety in all operations.
  • Ensure compliance with ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management, and Quality Assurance standards.
  • Support aircraft operations, research groups, and meteorological programs, including surface, upper air, and climatological initiatives.
  • Prepare, launch, monitor, and analyze upper-air sounding equipment, transmitting data to global organizations promptly.
  • Observe, record, and encode surface weather in METAR and synoptic WMO-coded formats, adhering to operational timelines.
  • Assist in preparing weekly, monthly, and annual climatological and administrative reports.
  • Maintain station quality control standards, ensuring accuracy in distributed meteorological data and long-term database integrity.
  • Monitor specific meteorological parameters for research purposes.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, repair, and operation of meteorological systems with relevant teams.
  • Manage inventory controls and departmental logs.
  • Conduct operations following ASC standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in general station operations, including building maintenance, resupply, galley support, and cargo handling.
  • Communicate effectively with personnel to report rapidly changing weather conditions.
  • Handle helium bottles and perform other duties as required.

Primary Skills:

  • Proficiency in surface weather observation and encoding in METAR and WMO-coded formats.
  • Expertise in upper-air sounding equipment and data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of climatological data quality control and reporting standards.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills for interagency collaboration.
  • Ability to work in dynamic and challenging environments with a focus on safety and accuracy.

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

  • Experience with research meteorology and monitoring specific atmospheric parameters.
  • Familiarity with ASC standard operating procedures and station operations.
  • Skills in managing inventory and preventive maintenance for meteorological systems.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology or related field preferred.
  • Military meteorology or equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
