POSITION SUMMARY

The successful candidate believes deeply that all students can learn and exceed at high levels, builds strong relationships with students and families, and demonstrates flexibility, creativity, and accountability for student success. Teachers at BHCSA inspire curiosity, cultivate critical thinking, and create classrooms where students feel valued, challenged, and supported.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum & Instruction

  • Accept responsibility for student academic achievement
  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction
  • Differentiate materials and methods to meet diverse learning needs
  • Maintain high expectations and motivate students to achieve their best
  • Use effective questioning and communication to build independent learners
  • Integrate technology for instruction and assessment

Classroom Management & Student Culture

  • Establish a classroom environment rooted in firm, fair, and consistent practices
  • Promote responsible citizenship and positive student behavior
  • Build trusting relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized learning environment

Professional Growth & Collaboration

  • Participate in professional development and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with colleagues and school leadership
  • Contribute to a positive school culture and community reputation
  • Uphold professional and ethical standards

School & Community Engagement

  • Support student enrollment and retention efforts
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for BHCSA in the community
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by school leadership

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements

OR

  • Bachelor's degree with alternative certification pathway and MTTC passage
  • Ability to effectively use instructional technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current instructional practices
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment
  • Passion for urban education
