Job Description

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Five middle school science classes (8th grade science)

  • All classes meet for 75 minutes every other day.

  • Middle school advisor (meet four times per week: two weekly group meeting and attendance at two chapels with advisees)

  • Supervision duty (one week per semester during lunch)

  • Attend weekly grade level meeting

  • Monthly meetings include, but are not exclusive to:

    • Science department

    • Middle school division

  • Experiential education trip chaperone (4-day trip)

  • Chaperone one dance per year

  • All-school faculty staff meetings three times per year

  • Participation in continuing professional development


8th Science - Science Investigations

In this lab-oriented course, students discover the principles of chemistry and physics through independent and collaborative work.
Students will gain an understanding of chemical and physical processes in their daily lives by participating in class discussions, conducting experiments, and testing hypotheses.
Hands-on laboratory investigations will incorporate state-of-the-art instruments to expose students to modern scientific techniques.
The high level of inquiry will allow students with a passion for science to develop their scientific curiosity.
Students will explore states of matter, the periodic table, chemical bonding and reactions, motion, forces, and Newton's laws.
At the end of the year, students will investigate various sources of energy, including wind, solar, and hydroelectric power.
Through our exploration and application of these tenets, students will gain a deep understanding of how physical sciences are related and the forces that shape our world.
(A one-year required course for all 8th grade students.
)


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

  • At least 3 years of classroom experience

  • Patience and creativity when working collaboratively with a range of constituent groups, including students, families, faculty, staff and administration from diverse backgrounds (religious, ethnic, socio-economic etc.
    )

  • Strength in both written and oral methods of communication

  • The teacher should demonstrate a willingness to grow and evolve as an educator and maintain a flexible attitude


Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with students, families, and science curriculum at the middle school level

  • Proficiency with technology to include Google classroom, PowerSchool Learning, and website maintenance

  • A proven interest in and passion for science
