Performance Responsibilities / Essential Functions: Use instructional materials and techniques to provide student achievement opportunities. Demonstrate knowledge of developmental practices for young children. Maintain accurate, neat records: class lists, attendance, health records, roll book, report cards, permanent folders. Maintain classroom appearance and report unsafe conditions; develop and implement effective classroom management. Complete reports, assignments, and records promptly. Collect lunch and/or activity monies when needed. Plan and prepare lessons, submitting plans weekly. Report regularly and punctually to assigned locations. Notify principal of impending absence. Provide substitutes with adequate plans and materials. Maintain books and equipment assigned to the class. Know methods, programs, curriculum guides, procedure bulletins, and resources. Use diagnostic methods for placement. Exhibit self‑control and decorum for student emulation. Accommodate individual differences. Evaluate student progress and plan accordingly. Cooperate with school‑based and central office personnel. Encourage parent involvement. Demonstrate professional growth, attend in‑service training, contribute to faculty meetings and studies. Conform to Louisiana laws on education, health, safety, and welfare of students. Assist in developing and implementing quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools. Participate in evaluation processes. Perform other duties assigned by the principal. Work Environment / Hours: School setting, climate‑controlled environment, and outside areas subject to extremes. Teach according to bargaining unit agreement. Communication Skills: Effectively communicate in English orally and in writing; use tele‑communication; interact with students, parents, and personnel. Equipment Used: Telephone, audio‑visual equipment, classroom computer, copy machine, laminator, calculator, and other appropriate machines. Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 10 pounds; operate classroom equipment. Transfer, restrain, or position special‑education students as needed. Cognitive / Mental Requirements: Plan and implement education programs for all students. Understand written and verbal instructions; maintain up‑to‑date records.
