Summer Camp Art Teacher - middle school

The San Francisco Historical Society (www.sfhistory.org ) is now hiring a fun, engaging Art teacher to lead our Art and Architecture Summer Camp Workshop for Middle School students.

About SFHS
The San Francisco Historical Society exists to uncover, preserve, and present, in engaging ways, the colorful and diverse history of our city from its earliest days to the present. SFHS provides educational activities and events for the youth and families of San Francisco with the aim of developing an informed and engaged population of young San Franciscans. Our current efforts focus on three areas:

- Gold Rush walking tours for students in Grade 4
- Art and Architecture Summer Workshop for middle school students
- An essay contest with cash prizes for high school students (See the Fracchia Prize)

Position:

We are seeking an engaging Art teacher for our Art and architecture summer workshop. Class size is capped at 13 students.

Work Hours: 9:30 am - 2 pm
Summer Camp Dates: Monday thru Friday; 3 sessions only ; exact summer dates TBD with teacher

Essential Functions and Tasks:
using our Teachers guide, teach students about Victorian architecture and various art techniques (watercolor, pencil drawing, 3-dimensional, color theory, etc)
once per week take students on a field trip to a restored Victorian on Alamo Square
Supervising lunch/ snack duties
Signing students in and out of the classroom at start and end of sessions

Qualifications:

Teacher certificate preferred
Experience with leading middle school students in Arts curriculum and/or summer art camps
Strong collaboration and communication skills

Compensation:

up to $50/hr based on experience.
