Job Description:

Hands-on experience MIG welding structural steel in a manufacturing or shop environment. Comfortable reading drawings/blueprints, fitting, and welding steel components. Reliable and willing to work extended hours and overtime. OSHA awareness and proper PPE usage required.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Select, measure, cut, and join metals to specifications.

  • Prepare metals and work surfaces for safe and effective welding Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.

  • Inspect completed welds for strength and appearance.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications accurately.

  • Follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Train and mentor welding recruits as needed.

  • Clean, inspect, and maintain welding equipment and tools.

  • Diagnose issues and troubleshoots as required.

  • Read a tape measure and use basic hand tools (squares, hammer, chisel, banding equipment, etc.).

  • Load parts into jigs.

  • Operate forklifts and shop machinery to transport materials.

  • Follow all welding safety guidelines and regulations.

  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Basic math skills and ability to read a tape measure.

  • Experience with MIG welding, layout, fit-up, and blueprint reading.

  • Ability to produce quality welds without cold lap or undercuts.

  • Ability to operate forklifts, welders, air tools, grinders, overhead cranes/jibs, oxy-acetylene torch, etc.

  • Punctual, dependable, and able to work scheduled hours.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Effective, professional communication with coworkers.

Preferred: Welding certification
