REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma/GED and two years of operations or student/support experience. Training/education may substitute for some experience.
  • Cash handling experience
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Current registered University/College students encouraged to apply

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience working in an Arboretum or Nature Center.
  • Proven experience in a highly customer service oriented environment with a diverse group of clientele.
  • Familiarity with Landscape Arboretum programs, grounds and buildings.
  • Ability stand up for 4-6 hours continuously.

TITLE: Gatehouse Attendant

SUPERVISOR: Guest Services Manager

CLASSIFICATION: #0001 Temporary 67 days or less per calendar year

HOURLY RATE: $18/hr


The Gatehouse Attendant position is responsible for greeting guests and collecting admission while providing top quality customer service. This position will requires superior customer service with an ability to work with a diverse group of clientele, attention to detail, and a strong knowledge of the Arboretum.

JOB DESCRIPTION


90% Greet Guests and Collect Admission Fees
  • Greet visitors; provide information to them about the MN Landscape Arboretum, Horticultural Research Center, and the Oswald Visitor Center.
  • Direct visitors to the correct location for their activity if necessary.
  • Collect Admission Fees
  • Promote & Sell memberships to non-member visitors
  • Enter transactions on POS system, give customer correct change, run credit card transactions; make change for visitors when appropriate
  • Keep up to date with the latest bloom reports to be able to recommend must see locations to visitors.
10% Process, Prepare and Reconcile Daily Activity Reports
  • Verify & Prepare daily cash settlements and reconcilements
  • Prepare daily cash attendance records including member visits, paying & non paying guests, discount tickets, group attendance, weather conditions
  • Report over & shorts


The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is a community outreach unit of the University of Minnesotas College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences. The Arboretum is located west of Minneapolis/St Paul and its 1,200 acres traverse the municipalities of Chaska, Chanhassen and Victoria. As a member of the American Public Garden Association and an accredited museum through the American Alliance of Museums, the Arboretum is a tremendous public asset. Visitors engage with gardens, collections, natural areas, a farm, research demonstrations, youth and adult education, events and exhibits.
