Summary

Application Engineer providing technical expertise and engineering support for KUKA Robotics' internal and external stakeholders in autonomous mobile robot (AMR) technology. Responsibilities include consulting, advising, designing, modifying, developing, and implementing engineered solutions for AMR and automation solutions and deployments using KUKA products and packages across various industries.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required. The successful candidate may perform other duties as assigned:

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for customers deploying AMR solutions.
  • Understand customer automation requirements and provide technical recommendations.
  • Advise on automation solutions, software architectures, and hardware.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to execute technical initiatives and provide feedback.
  • Design, develop software supporting autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) solutions.
  • Support simulations to help characterize and optimize AMR solutions validating fleet size estimations, throughput and space requirements
  • Conduct system-level testing and debugging to characterize, understand, resolve issues.
  • Develop documentation and technical notes for software and hardware configurations.
  • Optimize AMR mapping, navigation, obstacle avoidance, and path planning functionalities.
  • Support customers in designing and developing AMR solutions and deployments.
  • Stay updated with advancements in robotics and autonomous mobile robot systems.
  • Investigate new and existing technologies for technical initiatives.
  • Provide technical direction on assigned projects.
  • Perform in-house, on-site, and remote support for KUKA products.
  • Offer high-level support for software interfacing and KUKA software options.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Business Development teams on technical objectives.
  • Develop and run industry and customer-specific demonstrations and proof of concepts.
  • Complete tasks within defined timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with customer and other specifications.
  • Write application notes detailing product-specific problems and solutions.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Promote teamwork and cooperative effort.
  • Adhere to safety requirements and maintain a clean, safe work area.
  • Provide high-quality products and services to customers.
  • Apply quality improvement processes.
  • Adhere to the Quality System and participate in continuous improvement.



Supervisory Responsibilities

Periodically responsible for a team of 2 - 4 engineers and/or service technicians as required for successful demonstration and/or project completion. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; direct work contribution; assessing/reporting performance to applicable manager.



Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.E.E./B.S.C/B.S.M.E./ B.S.CS) from four-year college or university, years of related experience and/or training as detailed; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with the following is preferred:

  • High level programming languages (Java, C, C++, C#, Python, etc.)
  • Communication interfaces (Ethernet, MQTT, OPC UA, PLC/Fieldbuses, etc.)
  • Experience with AMR technologies (SLAM, VSLAM, lidar, 3D cameras, fleet management, etc.)
  • High level plant/manufacturing systems (MES, ERP, WMS, etc.)
  • Experience with SCADA solutions (Ignition, etc.)
