Job Summary:

The Pediatric MRI Technologist is responsible for performing magnetic resonance imaging procedures on patients from neonates through age 18. This role involves operating MRI machinery efficiently, providing age-appropriate patient care, coordinating with physicians for diagnostic imaging, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the scanning process. The technologist must maintain a clean and safe scanning environment and adhere to all MRI safety protocols.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate MRI equipment with proficiency, including Siemens scanners.
  • Prepare and explain MRI procedures to pediatric patients to ease anxiety.
  • Screen and prepare patients for safe scanning, identifying contraindications.
  • Adjust scanning parameters to accommodate different patient ages.
  • Coordinate with physicians to ensure timely receipt of diagnostic imaging results.
  • Document all procedures accurately while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain a clean and safe scanning facility.
  • Independently determine when scans must be stopped due to motion, and when sedation or anesthesia is needed.
  • Perform patient care tasks as needed during imaging procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to MRI safety policies and guidelines.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Associate degree in magnetic resonance imaging or radiology.
  • Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • New York State Radiologic Technologist License (must be obtained prior to start if not currently held).
  • Minimum of two years MRI technologist experience.
  • Experience with Siemens MRI scanners.
  • Six months pediatric MRI experience.
  • Level 1 Trauma Center experience.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Additional pediatric imaging certifications or training.
  • Experience working in a pediatric hospital or specialized pediatric imaging unit.
Special Considerations:
  • No on-call responsibilities.
  • Must be comfortable standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate care and communicate effectively with pediatric patients and their families.
  • Adherence to strict MRI safety protocols is mandatory.
Scheduling:
  • Monday through Friday schedule, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM, with some flexibility.
  • Holidays scheduled according to unit needs.
