We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.
We are accepting applications for Natural Resources Technician 1 Fish Hatchery Technician, Hebron State Fish Hatchery (1 position available - Licking County) within the Division of Wildlife, within the state of Ohio. What you will do
- Conducts surveys and collects data on Ohio's fish populations, including propagation and care of fish; identifies fish diseases; uses chemicals for disease treatments.
- Applies chemicals for vegetation and pest control; assists with collection and analysis of data for research projects pertinent to fish culture (e.g., trap netting, electrofishing, creel census); maintains records and completes reports;
- Strips eggs from broodstock and fertilizes eggs; feeds fish and cares for spawning devices; installs fry and minnow traps and seines; maintains water levels; takes sample weights and figures feed rates; bags and boxes eggs and fry for transportation
- Performs facility maintenance (e.g., repairs drainage systems, cement water boxes, penstocks and catch boxes; repairs water screens; mows grass; maintains roads, removes snow;
- Maintains all equipment including minor tune-ups of tractors, trucks, mowers, cleans and paints buildings); performs minor carpentry repairs (e.g., constructs water boxes, traps, screens and shop cupboards); performs minor plumbing and electrical repairs;
- Responds to emergency situations associated with fish culturing, (e.g., disease outbreak, pond aeration system, power outage);
- Conducts area tours; answers public injuries regarding Division of Wildlife programs; assists with other sections' field activities, (e.g., stream surveys, deer/turkey check stations, roadkill of injured animals).

- February 2024 - November 2024
Work Hours/Work Conditions
- 40 Hours/Week (Typically 8 hour days but may include some long days, up to 12 hours). Hours may vary depending on time of year and work needed.

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading & speaking common English vocabulary; valid drivers license; valid Commercial Drivers License required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Section 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio Revised Code.
