Spartanburg School District Two JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Network Administrator FLSA: Exempt GENERAL SUMMARY The Network Administrator's role is to plan and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization's Information Technology assets. Specifically, the applicant will provide technical assistance for the district's information technology program which includes installing computer equipment and hardware, performs repairs, upgrades and maintenance, installs software, troubleshoots technical problems, provides user training, and performs related technical duties. Supervises computer technicians. Reports to the Information Technology Coordinator DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategy & Planning Collaborates with technology team members to assess near and long-term network capacity needs and design and implement strategic plans to make certain network capacity meets existing and future requirements. Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records. Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery. Develops and deploys methodologies for testing network performance and providing network performance statistics and reports. Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation. Conducts testing and development of disaster recovery plans to detect faults, minimize malfunctions and backup systems as it relates to network functionality. Designs and supports VoIP infrastructure and its associated software, including IP-PBXs, call management systems, voicemail, and interactive voice response. Selects, deploys, and utilizes appropriate tools for reporting and routing of IP telephony traffic on the network. Documents the WLAN's architecture, designs, and layout, including protocols and standards used, as well as configuration. Acquisition & Deployment Collaborates with the finance department to develop purchase orders and invoicing processes Designs and deploys company LANs, and WANs, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs and other hardware. Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry in support of network procurement and development efforts. Oversees new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades relating to network or telephony equipment. Plans and implements any improvement, modifications, or replacement of network infrastructure components. Where necessary, liaise with equipment vendors during installations and hardware performance issues. Designs and deploys enterprise-class wireless networks, including access points, servers, routers, hubs, switches, and other hardware. Operational Management Receives, prioritizes, and responds to incoming work orders, calls, and/or emails regarding equipment and/or connectivity problems. Accurately documents instances of software or hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal or other work requests. Manages and ensures optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, UPSs, and so on. Manages and ensures effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus solutions, Virtual Private Networks, and intrusion detection systems. Establishes and maintains regular written and in-person communications with departmental administration regarding pertinent network activities. Configures all networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling organizational objectives and processes. Defines and implements strategies for integrating disparate operating system environments. Monitor network performance and troubleshoots problem areas as needed to identify and remedy network performance bottlenecks. Ensures network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances. Performs on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex network problems for a variety of end users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions. Manages planning and maintenance of network cabling, including MDF and IDF closets. Participates in managing all network security solutions. Performs server and security audits, and system backups and recovery. Provide guidance to junior team members. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education and Experience: High school diploma with two years technical school or computer related servicing and experience with computer networks; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of stand-alone and networked computers and peripheral devices, hardware, software, and operations (LAN, WAN). Knowledge of related software applications being used by end users. Knowledge of the records and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Knowledgeable in the use/operations of computers/networks and the entry and maintenance of related information and data. Knowledgeable of training methods. Knowledge in Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS). Knowledge in Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, GPO, Azure Active Directory, O365 Admin Portal, PowerShell, and basic scripting. Working Conditions: Office environment with no exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to general office activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to ten pounds. Routine local travel required; occasional overnight travel required.
