Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer to support and manage lab and enterprise network infrastructure in Minnesota. This role requires strong Linux expertise, hands-on experience with hardware and virtualization environments, and the ability to support, optimize, and scale network and system infrastructure.

The position is classified as a Network Engineer (not Network Administrator) due to the technical depth of the role and the emphasis on Linux-based systems, infrastructure optimization, and lab operations.

Key Responsibilities

Network & Infrastructure Operations

  • Install, configure, monitor, maintain, and optimize network and server infrastructure supporting lab operations
  • Administer and optimize Linux-based servers, ensuring reliability and performance
  • Configure and maintain virtualization platforms, network devices, and supporting infrastructure
  • Implement and monitor backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and system availability

System Support & Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues to minimize downtime
  • Ensure secure access, data integrity, and compliance with internal security standards
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability

Lab Operations & Workflow Management

  • Manage daily workflow and task assignments within the lab environment
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams while reporting to designated technical leads
  • Maintain detailed documentation for configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Create and maintain system diagrams, operational documentation, and best practices
  • Support infrastructure improvements and optimization initiatives

Role Growth & Future Opportunities

  • Potential transition into a long-term role supporting both lab operations and Cummins IT infrastructure
  • Lead hardware replacement planning, infrastructure upgrades, and scalability initiatives
  • Expanded responsibilities as lab operations grow

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience as a Network Engineer
  • Expertise in Linux system administration (mandatory)
  • Experience with network infrastructure, virtualization, and server environments
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, OS, and network layers
  • Ability to work onsite 5 days per week
  • US Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in lab environments or engineering test labs
  • Hands-on experience with hardware systems and infrastructure
  • Familiarity with backup, monitoring, and performance optimization tools

Work Environment

  • Office-based role with flexible working hours
  • Daily onsite presence required
  • Hands-on engagement with lab hardware and software systems
