We are seeking a hands-on, technically curious, and detail-oriented Infrastructure & Lab Systems Engineer to support our engineering operations and maintain mission-critical lab and network environments.

Position Summary

This role will be responsible for the performance, availability, and automation of computing and network infrastructure across engineering labs. The ideal candidate is a proactive technologist with a passion for troubleshooting, systems optimization, and hands-on lab maintenance.


Note:

This is a 100% onsite role in our Albany, NY (Onsite Only). Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and maintain engineering lab environments, including demos, dev/test systems, and customer simulations.

  • Manage physical setup and reconfiguration of lab equipment (servers, simulators, cabling, and low-voltage wiring).

  • Implement and manage local area networks and related monitoring tools.

  • Support complete lifecycle engineering from design to implementation and maintenance.

  • Configure secure, high-performance networks and remote access solutions.

  • Plan, scale, and manage VMware vSphere/ESXi installations and virtual environments.

  • Install, configure, and maintain third-party and internal testing equipment.

  • Maintain lab inventory and oversee equipment procurement and planning.

  • Perform server maintenance, SAN configuration, and network VLAN adjustments.

  • Develop or revise automation scripts in Bash, PowerShell, or Groovy.

  • Troubleshoot system and network issues across Linux, macOS, and Windows platforms.

  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities in tools, design, and processes to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Participate in team planning and daily operations meetings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum of 8+ years of relevant hands-on experience.

  • Strong multitasking ability with a self-starting, organized, and results-driven attitude.

  • Proficient in hardware/software/network troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of networking protocols and technologies (Layer 2-4, TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, NAT, etc.).

  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools (e.g., Zabbix, Nagios, SolarWinds, ElastiFlow).

  • Familiarity with networking hardware (10G/25G/40G/100G) and Cisco IOS/NX-OS.

  • Comfortable working with Unix/Linux distributions (CentOS, Ubuntu, SuSE) and Apple macOS.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • VMware Certified Professional or experience with ESXi 7+, vCenter, and virtual networking.

  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Linux+.

  • Familiarity with SAN/NAS storage systems (TrueNAS, iSCSI, QSAN, Nfina).

  • Experience with visualization and logging tools (Grafana, Kibana, Splunk).

  • Scripting knowledge (Groovy, Bash, PowerShell, Python, or Ruby).

  • Understanding of Agile development workflows and DevOps principles
