Bring your Firewall experience to the DET! The Network Access Management section is hiring a Network Security Specialist or a Lead Network Security Administrator. This position is responsible for the integration and connectivity of very complex, disparate distributed network application security infrastructure for agencies and enterprise systems. The DET is open to hiring at two levels. This recruitment is open to candidates that fit at the Specialist level or Consultant Administrator level.

This position will have the option of working remotely upon agreement of the supervisor but may be asked to come into the office periodically. This schedule may change based on operational needs and organizational requirements.

Under the general review of the Network Access Management Section Chief and Unit Supervisor, this position functions as a technical leader for the enterprise network security infrastructure including both cloud-based and on-premises systems. These systems involve multiple hardware and software platforms, applications, and advanced, emerging technologies such as Next-Generation Firewalls and Web Application Firewalls (WAF), Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), and Network Access Control.

Levels Will Be Determined By Applicant Qualifications And Experience.

Starting salary for the IS Enterprise Network Services Specialist (07-33) will be between $34.16 - $50.00 an hour, depending on applicant qualifications. Starting salary for the IS Enterprise Network Services Consultant Administrator (07-32) will be between $39.04 - $56.00 an hour, depending on applicant qualifications A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct fingerprinting and/or background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.

Employees are expected to work and live in Wisconsin. Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. Minimally qualified applicants for either level will have the following:

  • Experience with Palo Alto and Cisco firewalls
  • Experience in assisting (or leading) the design, implementation, or management of network security such as encryption, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and/or secure network design

In addition to the above, well qualified candidates for the Consultant Administrator level will have the following:

  • Expert knowledge and experience in the function of firewall hardware
  • Technical leadership experience in consulting with stakeholders on their needs and executing projects within an enterprise network environment
