Job Description Black Box Network Services, the global leader in communication system integration, is looking for several Technician - Network with a proven track record in: Racking and stacking of network devices Cable patching Physical layer troubleshooting Installing and troubleshooting Cisco and Avaya IP phones Position Details Hourly salary based upon the level of experience & skill‑set Full time permanent hire Standard work hours: Multiple shifts to support 24/7 coverage Data Center Support located in Richmond, VA Client Addendum Applies; will provide at the time of offer acceptance Responsibilities Patch cabling between network equipment and customer’s network Install power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet Install, troubleshoot and de‑install network equipment Install/swap out devices (e.g., phones, computers, cables, boards, edge routers, switches, etc.) Install, troubleshoot and de‑install Network General remote Sniffers Complete all hard and complex Move, Add, Change (MAC) requests within defined service levels Act as interface between customer’s associates and management Provide hardware break‑fix services for network infrastructure Perform onsite call‑through, data, voice, website and security testing Perform back‑up testing to ensure all systems are connected to the customer’s network as directed Support carrier testing of circuits Assist with facilities efforts Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral Water problems Emergency cooling restoration Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post‑fire events Support inventory management activities Receiving inventory Tagging of assets Tracking spares (crash kits) Ordering inventory Updating inventory records Prepare and return damaged equipment Act as an interface between associates at the applicable location and centralized project / operations / MAC management Requirements Proficient in utilizing technical tools such as sniffers, BERT testers, cable testers, and fiber testers Experience working in communications closets Ability to perform rack and stack activities Capable of safely lifting heavy objects Understanding of cable patching processes and procedures Familiarity with 66 Block and 110 Block cross‑connect procedures Basic knowledge of data communications networking Ability to assist in troubleshooting issues Understanding of network terminology Familiarity with IP phone Program Cisco phones Install Avaya phones Troubleshoot Avaya and Cisco phones Good interpersonal communication skills Ability to explain technical issues in a way the customer will understand Ability to interpret a customer’s issue to facilitate a resolution Experience & Education 5 years of experience in data communications Basic knowledge of Cisco phones, switches and routers Basic knowledge of local and wide area networking High school diploma or equivalent required Black Box is an equal‑opportunity employer.
