Director of Operations – Museum (Local Candidates Only)We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on Director of Operations to lead the day-to-day management and growth of our museum. This is a highly visible leadership role reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, responsible for overseeing operations, staff, programming, and community engagement.This position is ideal for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats—combining leadership, education, operations, and creativity to enhance the overall visitor experience and advance the museum’s mission.What You’ll DoLead Daily OperationsOversee all museum operations, ensuring a welcoming and engaging experience for visitorsMaintain accurate records and prepare reports for the Board of Trustees (admissions, revenue, donations, activities)Manage financial tracking including expenses, income, and depositsManage Gift Shop & Revenue StreamsOversee gift shop operations including inventory, purchasing, merchandising, and budgetingManage online orders and product curationTrack and report on retail performanceDrive Programming & Community EngagementLead educational programs including tours, field trips, group visits, and special eventsRepresent the museum within the community and at local eventsCollaborate with local organizations and committeesLead & Develop TeamSupervise staff, volunteers, and internsOversee hiring, training, scheduling, and performanceFoster a positive and engaging team environmentMarketing & CommunicationsManage and grow social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn)Create and design promotional materials, signage, and event graphicsMaintain and update the museum websiteFundraising & DevelopmentLead fundraising initiatives and donor engagement effortsManage grant applications and reportingSupport donor recognition efforts (including plaques and acknowledgments)Collections & Facility OversightSupport proper handling and care of museum artifactsEnsure the museum remains clean, organized, and well-presentedCoordinate with external vendors as neededWhat We’re Looking ForBachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred)3–5+ years of nonprofit or operational leadership experienceStrong leadership, communication, and organizational skillsExperience managing budgets, reporting, and financial trackingFamiliarity with museum operations and educational programmingExperience with social media management and graphic design toolsBackground in fundraising and/or grant writingWhy This RoleOpportunity to lead and shape the future of a growing museumHigh visibility with leadership and community stakeholdersAbility to make a direct impact on programming, operations, and visitor experienceDiverse, hands-on role with meaningful workWork EnvironmentPrimarily onsite role with some flexibility for occasional remote workModerate physical activity may be requiredPerformance & GrowthInitial performance review at 90 daysAnnual reviews with compensation adjustments based on performance
