Position Title: Noon Hour Aide - Montessori

Location: Various Locations

Salary: $15.60 /hr.

Reports to: Principal

Bargaining Unit: Detroit Federation of Paraprofessionals (PARA)

Benefits Eligible: Yes

Telcommuting Eligibility: Not elibible for telecommuting.

In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Paraprofessionals, Local 2350 and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Position Summary: The Montessori Noon Hour Aide will sit with the students for a family style meal to encourage conversation and discussions about the food. Montessori Noon Hour Aide must clean and sanitize tables and food prep area according to state law standards. Montessori Noon Hour Aide will assist with escorting and monitoring students during lunch period and outside recess.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess and provide evidence of high school diploma or GED certification.
  • Experience working with large groups of people, especially prekindergarten students preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills; ability to be flexible.
  • Good mediation and conflict resolution skills a plus.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide coverage in the prekindergarten classroom and during lunch with minimum supervision.
  • Prepare foods in serving containers for the students to serve themselves.
  • Support students as they set the table and as they clean up after the meal.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with students.
  • Assist students with setting cots out for rest-time.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, parents, visitors, and the community.
  • Clean the refrigerator weekly.
  • Rotate foods (using older foods first).
  • Clean and sanitize tables and food prep area.
  • Attend all city-wide in-service activities and sessions related to your job description;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Security Clearance:

Internal Applicants

If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.

External Applicants

In alignment with Michigan law, if you are hired to fill a position, you will be required to submit to a Detroit Public Schools Community District criminal background check. Information regarding required background checks will be shared at point of hire.
