Under limited supervision, Nuclear Safety Engineering job functions as assigned by management, Typical job responsibilities assist and support management in nuclear safety support of operations and engineering system design. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
- Reviews processes, systems, and activities in nuclear/non-nuclear facilities to ensure associated safety equipment is designed to protect the health and safety of the public and co-located workers.
- Performs hazard and accident analyses and documents conclusions in Documented Safety Analyses and Technical Safety Requirements including supporting documents.
- Develops functional safety requirements for structures, systems, and components and establishes safety requirements for credited systems.
- Evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of design development.
- Prepares and/or supports Un-reviewed Safety Question Determinations (USQDs) and USQ Screens.
Requirements
- A minimum of a BA/BS degree plus 5 or more years of Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) DOE specific experience.
- Expert understanding of pertinent codes, governing regulations, and industry practices.
- Expert knowledge of applicable codes and standards as well as project procedures.
- Understanding of multiple engineering disciplines.
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.
