Job Title: Manager of 24-Hour Patient Care Services

Salary: USD $185,900 $281,000 / yr

Job Summary:
The Manager of 24-Hour Patient Care Services is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of patient care departments, ensuring high-quality, accessible, cost-effective, and patient-centered services. This role ensures that care delivery complies with all local, state, and federal regulations. The manager will establish and maintain clinical care standards, manage resource budgeting, and guide the recruitment, training, and development of staff.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage the operations of 24-hour patient care departments, potentially across multiple locations, ensuring staff provide exceptional care in compliance with relevant regulations, including the Nursing Practice Act and The Joint Commission.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain patient care and service standards that meet the needs and expectations of members and internal stakeholders.
  • Design, assess, and optimize systems and processes to improve patient care outcomes and efficiency across the care continuum.
  • Oversee budget management, ensuring optimal use of resources (human and material). Monitor financial performance, implementing strategies to improve cost efficiency and care quality.
  • Determine staffing requirements and develop processes for recruitment, hiring, training, and maintaining the competency of all department staff. Ensure ongoing professional development and address human resources, safety, and risk management issues.
  • Develop and enforce departmental policies and procedures that align with organizational goals, ensuring they are consistently met.
  • Lead quality improvement activities and oversee fiscal management while setting and monitoring care standards and practice guidelines.

Kaiser Permanente regularly conducts compensation reviews and reserves the right to reevaluate and adjust job descriptions or transition positions between salaried and hourly pay status with prior notice.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of clinical nursing experience in the relevant area of specialty, including at least 4 years in a management, supervisory, or leadership role.
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or a Master's Degree in Nursing obtained through a direct-entry MSN program.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in California.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in clinical nursing roles such as Charge Nurse, Senior RN, or participation in professional committees (including UBTs).
  • Completion of RN Leadership Development Program or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission standards, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • ACLS or PALS certification may be required for specific departments.
  • National Certification in specialty area is preferred within 1 year of hire.
  • Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of management experience preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in Magnet/shared governance or managing in a bargaining environment preferred.
  • Master's degree in nursing or a related field preferred.
  • At least 5 years of recent experience managing/supervising the Main OR within the last 7 years.
