Duties Assessment & Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories, physical exams, and diagnostic testing. Diagnosis: Identify and diagnose acute, chronic, and complex health conditions. Treatment Planning: Develop individualized care plans that address patient needs, including treatment goals and expected outcomes. Prescribing: Prescribe medications, therapies, and medical devices. Education: A graduate or higher‑level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. Accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Position: Applicants must possess a graduate or higher‑level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Specialties include Acute Care, Family, Geriatric, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Women’s Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Orthopedic, or other specialties identified for the position. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory. For APN positions, licensure in the clinical specialty required by the position is required. Basic Requirements for GS‑11 or Equivalent Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS‑9 grade level and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree from a professional nursing educational program. Professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS‑9 grade level: Deliver comprehensive primary, preventive, and therapeutic care, handle increasingly complex cases, and consult with senior staff only for rare or highly complex medical issues. Basic Requirements for GS‑12 or Equivalent At least one or more full years of professional nursing experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Professional nursing experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS‑11): Deliver direct and comprehensive primary, preventive, and therapeutic medical and nursing care to patients, including counseling, coordinating services, and collaborating with other disciplines to evaluate and improve programs. Promotion potential: This position may have promotion potential to the GS‑12 grade level.
