Summary: Supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities such as direct patient care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and administrative/clerical support. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Formal Education Required: a. Must be enrolled as a full time or part time student in an accredited associate degree or bachelor's degree nursing program and have completed the first clinical rotation. 2. Nursing Student Tech (NST) Conditions of Eligibility: a. An employee may remain in the NST job post-graduation and pre-licensure up to six (6) months after which their eligibility to stay employed as an NST will cease. 3. Experience and Training Required: a. Must complete Summa's orientation b. Current BLS-HCP card upon hire and maintained thereafter 4. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications: a. Ability to read and write English, follow written and oral instructions and perform basic mathematical functions b. Ability to work well within a team environment: by accepting and offering honest and constructive feedback; by supporting team goals and encouraging other team members; and by collaborating with patient care members to consolidate work, solve problems, create new methods and/or reduce costs c. Ability to understand and carry out the vision of patient care at Summa: to create a patient care environment that is focused on the needs and expectations of the patient, our customer d. Ability to be self-directed in executing responsibilities within a team structure e. Ability to take initiative to contribute beyond the scope of formal duties (e.g., suggesting innovative ideas and providing feedback on a team's direction) f. Shows flexibility/adaptability in meeting environmental constraints and demands placed on services as is common with changing reimbursement and managed care targets g. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, frequent pushing, pulling and lifting of patients, cleaning equipment, and materials h. Ability to provide necessary care for patients (i.e. neonate/newborns, children, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged adults, and geriatric adults) as required by position i. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity 5. Level of Physical Demands: a. Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects. b.
