The Public Health & Environment Department is seeking a customer‑focused office support team member to serve as the first point of contact at our front reception desk in Stillwater, MN. This in‑person position is not eligible for remote work. Responsibilities Assist the public by phone and in person, providing accurate information about departmental programs and services. Process mail and handle cash and credit card transactions. Enter data into databases and maintain accurate records. Maintain office equipment and order supplies. Draft and review various department documents, including correspondence and reports. Schedule meetings, coordinate events, and assist with training and mentoring of other clerical staff. Communicate technical issues to IT using standard procedures. In addition, the role includes: Collecting fees and processing payments, balancing cash accounts. Initiating purchase orders and paying invoices. Compiling, calculating, and preparing reports and billings. Entering and maintaining data with accuracy, conducting file searches, and retrieving documents. Updating working procedures and providing customer service by referring callers or visitors to appropriate departments. Desirable Experience Paid work experience providing customer service in a professional office environment, including front‑desk or reception support. Paid work experience using Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint). Paid work experience handling cash, credit card, or other financial transactions. Paid work experience scheduling meetings/appointments, maintaining calendars, and coordinating office activities. Paid work experience managing confidential or sensitive information with discretion. Selection Technique Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted, and the top scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration. Hours & Days 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Work is performed on‑site, primarily at the Government Center in Stillwater. Telework or remote options are not available. Anticipated Hiring Rate $20.85–$24.60 hourly. E‑Verify Participation Washington County participates in the federal E‑Verify program. Completion of a related business or office certificate program may be substituted for one year of required experience. Accurately sorts and files a variety of materials in accordance with designated systems. Work Environment Work performed is sedentary, typically within the Government Center or a satellite office. Lifting requirement of 15–20 pounds on an occasional basis. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation due to high concentration of filing, compiling, calculating, or computer work. Equipment used may include computer, calculator, telephone, camera, copier/scanner/fax machine. Work interruptions are frequent. There is some pressure associated with dealing with emotionally charged individuals and with project or activity deadlines. Driving or riding to a service center, attending meetings, participating or leading training sessions may be required. May involve exposure to environmental conditions.
