JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager I (SSMI), the Office Technician provides administrative support to the Region Maintenance staff.
Also provides clerical support within maintenance support as it pertains to the hiring process by scheduling and preparing for interviews.
The OT works closely with maintenance managers, superintendents, supervisors, and maintenance support staff to ensure accurate payroll, pay warrant distribution and interviews are scheduled in a timely manner.
The OT is required to maintain professional, courteous behavior and with the public and all Caltrans employees, to provide thorough and accurate work products, and demonstrate flexibility, and teamwork.

This position may be eligible for telework.
The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltranss evolving telework policy.
Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs.
Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises.
The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs.
Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employees designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions.
All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Office Technician (Typing) Exam.

Working Conditions

This position is located in Stockton, San Joaquin County

The incumbent will be exposed to computers, various lighting conditions - including but not limited to artificial lighting in a standard work cubicle, will be required to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
Must be able to work at a keyboard and focus on complex tasks for long periods of time.
Must be able to organize and prioritize large volumes of work documents.
Overtime may be required, and vacations may be restricted during peak times and fiscal year-end closing.
Travel throughout the district may be required.


New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
