Onsite End User Compute Engineer Onsite – User & Device Migration|Chesapeake, Virginia (1099 Contract) Rate: $70/hour Contract Duration: 3 weeks (1 week per site) — candidates must be available for the full engagement Technical Skills: Active Directory, Windows workstation support, Microsoft 365 (Exchange, Intune, Teams, OneDrive) Location: Onsite at client locations in Chesapeake, Virginia Engagement Overview We are seeking Onsite End User Compute Engineers local to the Chesapeake, Virginia area to support a multi-site user and device migration across three client locations. Each engagement is one (1) week onsite, for a total commitment of three weeks. Candidates must be available for the full three-week engagement to be considered. This is a local role. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of Chesapeake, VA. No relocation, hotel, or airfare is provided. Selected engineers will be onboarded and brought up to speed by the engineers managing the broader project, ensuring consistency in tooling, process, and escalation paths. You will be the trusted face of the engagement onsite and serving as the primary point of contact between the client site and the remote project team. Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary onsite point of contact, representing the project team professionally throughout the engagement. Coordinate timing and sequencing with the remote migration architect executing centralized cutover tasks. Work systematically through designated areas ensuring devices are moving through the migration process. Confirm the Quest Desktop Update Agent (DUA) is installed, connected, and progressing on each in-scope workstation. Identify and elevate stalled or failed agents to the remote migration architect for resolution. Validate workstations are successfully joined to the target Active Directory and Microsoft 365 tenant following migration. Document and elevate issues promptly; report daily progress and resolutions to the migration lead. Required Skills & Experience Must be local to the Chesapeake, Virginia area and able to commute to client sites for the duration of the engagement. 4+ years of experience in an Active Directory and Windows workstation environment. Comfort navigating Microsoft 365 services at a user support level — Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, and Intune‑managed devices. Hands‑on experience troubleshooting user login, profile, and access issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. This role requires daily interaction with end users and client site contacts. Ability to stay calm and professional in a fast‑paced, high‑visibility environment. Ability to work independently onsite with guidance provided remotely. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with Quest On Demand Migration (ODM) and the Desktop Update Agent (DUA), or comparable migration tooling. Prior experience in a client‑facing field services or onsite deployment role. Experience working across varied site environments including warehouse, distribution center, or office settings. Exposure to Okta, hybrid Exchange, PKI, or domain rewrite scenarios. Work Environment Onsite at client locations in Chesapeake, VA during active migration periods. This role is not remote. Client‑facing engagement requiring professionalism and composure throughout. You are the face of the project team on the ground. Close collaboration with the engineers leading the broader migration project (who will provide onboarding and ongoing guidance) and a remote migration architect.
