What You Will Do



PIE-4 is looking for a customer-focused individual for the Operation Specialist 3 position. The successful candidate will provide on-site operational support to the group while serving as the primary liaison with a variety of programmatic organizations.

The selected candidate will be expected to operate with initiative, professionalism, dependability, and flexibility within a dynamic organization. Specific duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Coordinate process improvements with internal and external customers.
  • Facilitate staffing plans and resource load schedules.
  • Ensure all work processes and products meet established requirements within DOE and LANL policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all field engineering deliverables are tracked and accounted for in execution schedules for metrics and operational feedback.
  • Perform and assist in routine facility or area walk-downs where field engineering operations are taking place.
  • Assist in internal quality assessments of Field Engineering operations.
  • Track and schedule actions for facility and organization readiness.
  • Coordinate with the organizations to which field engineering is deployed and ensure PIE-4 operations comply with deployed organizational administrative procedures.
  • Function as the point of contact for all programmatic and operations customers.
  • Assist in the coordination of various administrative functions.
  • Manage operational programs within the group including shift organizations, project schedule reporting
  • Assist the group leader in the development and tracking of operational performance metrics.
  • Coordinate with programmatic and facility organizations to support group operations and field engineering project coverage.
  • Assist the group leader in the development of procedures and desktop instructions to improve conduct of operations.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse team of professionals, including the ability to leverage ingenuity, creativity, and personal independence to support multiple concurrent team tasks with changing programmatic priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service and attention to detail through excellent communication skills and customer alignment.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software, including ability to independently interpret data and information to produce Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, interact with institutional systems and databases, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with little supervision while managing frequent interruptions and changing priorities; complete assignments within requirements; be available, dependable, and punctual.
  • Experience with MS SharePoint and its functionality.
  • Experience working to and updating project schedules.
  • Performs routine facility or area walk-downs, procedure reviews, inspections, and/or evaluations to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the facility and/or organization.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, including networking with senior internal and external personnel.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow-through to completion on multiple tasks, under strict deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Highly proficient in the preparation and formatting of correspondence, reports, and/or presentations.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Familiar with PIE-4 and Field Engineering practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Escort experience may serve as an escort to visitors and/or L-cleared personnel.
  • Advanced experience in conducting research, developing alternative solutions, and developing solutions on problems affecting operations and administration in creative ways for complex problems.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
