Job Summary:

The Operations Manager plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between strategic management and daily operations within Apex Waste Solutions. This position is designed to support the General Manager (GM) by assisting with strategic tasks and aiding route personnel in daily operational activities. The OM ensures efficient and effective operational practices that align with company goals, while also maintaining high levels of safety, customer satisfaction, and team performance. This position operates in an office environment and in the field, with regular exposure to outdoor conditions and physical activities associated with waste management operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning: Assist the GM in developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance operational

efficiency, sustainability, and company growth.

Operational Oversight: Provide hands-on support to the route personnel in managing safe and efficient

daily operations, ensuring all activities comply with company policies and procedures.

Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor route personnel, fostering an environment of teamwork,

continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence. Serve as the timecard supervisor for all operations staff.

Safety and Compliance: Oversee and enhance safety programs, ensuring adherence to all regulatory and

company safety standards. Lead by example to promote a culture of safety first.

Training and Development: Coordinate and facilitate training programs for operations staff, including route

personnel, to ensure skill enhancement and compliance with industry standards.

Staffing: Responsible for staffing needs, including interviews, onboarding, and scheduling, to ensure

operational needs are met.

Customer Satisfaction: Work closely with the Dispatcher and other company personnel to resolve

customer satisfaction issues promptly and effectively, ensuring quality of service meets company

standards.

Performance Management: Work with the GM to evaluate operational performance, identify areas for

improvement, and implement corrective actions to meet or exceed targets.

Other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Active Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B minimum.
  • Availability to work in the field as needed, with regular exposure to outdoor conditions.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, Operations Management, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience (3-5+ years)

Skills:

• Proven experience in operations management, preferably in waste disposal or similar industry.

• Proven strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.

• Proven excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining strong working relationships.

• Knowledge of DOT and OSHA safety regulations and compliance standards in the waste disposal

industry, or related industry.

• Familiar with instrumenting operations to enable data collection and compiling data into a usable

format to support operational decision making (e.g. GPS data on trucks to evaluate route and driver

performance)
