About the Role:

The Ophthalmic Tester plays a critical role in supporting eye care professionals by conducting a variety of diagnostic tests to assess patients' visual acuity and eye health. This position involves working closely with patients to perform standardized vision tests, gather accurate measurements, and record data that will inform diagnosis and treatment plans. The role requires a thorough understanding of ophthalmic equipment and testing procedures to ensure reliable and precise results. Additionally, the Ophthalmic Tester contributes to maintaining a smooth clinical workflow by preparing patients for examinations and assisting with administrative tasks related to patient records. Ultimately, this position is essential in facilitating early detection and management of eye conditions, thereby improving patient outcomes and quality of life.

Tests and Treatments trained to perform:

  • Visual Fields
  • OCT
  • Fundus photo
  • Pattern ERGs
  • Topography
  • Lipiflow
  • Valeda Photobiomodulation

Key competencies:

  • Ability to effectively communicate and explain step by step instructions to the patient on test or treatment being performed
  • Excellent patient experience, friendly demeanor
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to a fast paced clinical setting and stay on time/schedule
  • Ability to work well independently and as a team
  • Accurate data input into patient's medical records

Other duties:

  • Monitoring patient flow
  • Ensure the physician exam rooms are always full after testing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of eye anatomy and common ophthalmic conditions
  • Experience with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and testing procedures
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients and clinical staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized ophthalmic testing training program or certification
  • Previous experience working in a clinical or hospital ophthalmology setting
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems specific to eye care
  • Additional training in patient care or healthcare support services
  • Bilingual abilities to assist a diverse patient population

The Ophthalmic Tester utilizes technical skills daily to operate specialized diagnostic equipment accurately and safely, ensuring high-quality data collection.
