Aquinas Consulting is currently looking to fill an Optical Transmission System Test Engineer job for our direct client in Newington, NH. In this role, you will define, plan, and execute test programs supporting the development and delivery of undersea optical transmission systems. The Optical Transmission System Test Engineer will develop and execute qualification test plans to validate hardware, software, and firmware features against product requirements. This role includes managing laboratory equipment, troubleshooting systems, and documenting test results while collaborating closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Test & Commissioning, Project Management, Sales, NOC, and Field Support teams. Some travel will be required to support fieldwork.

Optical Transmission System Test Engineer job responsibilities:

• Define, plan, and execute test programs for undersea optical transmission systems
• Develop and execute qualification test plans to validate HW/SW/FW product features
• Perform optical transmission testing including OTN OTU1–4, SDH STM1–64, PDH E1–E5, Ethernet 100base–100Gbps
• Conduct measurements related to optical gain/loss, OSNR, BER, PMD, PDL, dispersion, nonlinear processes, eye diagrams, and related parameters
• Plan and execute DWDM transmission tests
• Verify compliance with data and telecommunications standards
• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory test systems
• Document test procedures, results, and findings
• Plan and execute customer demonstrations
• Collaborate with systems, software, and hardware engineers to generate and execute test plans
• Operate and revise test automation software as needed
• Work effectively as both a team contributor and, when required, a technical lead

Optical Transmission System Test Engineer job qualifications:

• M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Optics, or Physics, or B.S. with relevant experience in fiber optics or coherent optical communications
• 12+ years of relevant experience in optical transmission systems testing
• Strong knowledge of DWDM transmission, coherent detection, optical amplifiers, OADM systems, and nonlinear optical transmission
• Proficiency in Linux environments
• Strong analytical, laboratory, communication, and documentation skills
• Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments
• Knowledge of programming languages preferred
