JOB DESCRIPTION:


The King County Prosecuting Attorneys Office is seeking an experienced Paralegal II to join our team in the Department of Natural Resources and Parks Section in the Civil Division. The successful candidate will perform a wide variety of support tasks that require the exercise of initiative and independent judgment along with the ability to anticipate needs and appropriately respond. Candidates must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently; strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with all levels of clients and County staff; analytical and critical thinking skills to make decisions and initiate action; time management skills to handle multiple tasks effectively and accurately within often short deadlines; and the ability to handle emergency situations and work under pressure. Strong computer skills using Advanced MS Word, Adobe Pro, Outlook, Excel OneNote, and OneDrive required. Working knowledge of Legal Files and Relativity eDiscovery platform desirable. Civil litigation experience is required.

Work Schedule: This position works a 40-hour work week schedule, normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.This position is eligible for King Countys generous benefits package.This position will be primarily telecommuting but will require a physical presence in the office location at least one day per week (or more, as business needs dictates). Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.


Salary:
Range 51 -- $36.3765 (step one) - $46.1094 (step ten) Hourly*

Union Membership:Positions in this classification are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117.

  • Research, investigate, compile, review, and document relevant and responsive information in connection with lawsuits filed on behalf of King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks.
  • Oversee all aspects of case organization, including analyzation and preparation of complex discovery, conduct document collections, and document reviews, manage electronic discovery, and trial preparation.
  • Draft and prepare a variety of legal documents such as complaints, answers, briefs, discovery, motions, responses, replies, etc.
  • Read and summarize deposition transcripts, client records, and other documents as required.
  • Draft and prepare letters, memos, and other correspondence.
  • Attend Equity and Social Justice trainings including discussions.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Civil litigation experience.
  • Knowledge of legal office practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of Washington local, state, and federal court rules and policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of complex filing systems.
  • Knowledge of Legal Files software.
  • Knowledge of Relativity eDiscovery platform
  • Skill in remaining calm in high-stress situations and meeting deadlines.
  • Skill in working on numerous tasks simultaneously and accurately.
  • Skill in remaining objective, non-judgmental, and sensitive to a situation and in conducting business in a professional manner.
