Part Time Upper School Math Teacher Apply
St. Luke’s School, a secular (non-religious), college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks a part-time Upper School Math teacher to teach 2 sections of math, most likely Algebra II. A successful candidate will join a team of Mathematics teachers known for their extraordinary commitment. Whether the content is Pre-Algebra or Calculus, our Math teachers put students first. The Department uses a range of instructional methods, including direct instruction, group work, inquiry-based, and flipped classrooms; the practices in inform the approach. This team of math teachers embraces what Seymour Papert has called “hard fun.” The St. Luke’s Upper School Math Team participates in all Fairfield County math meets and also has social outings. Joining this group of colleagues means joining an ongoing conversation about how best to teach math, and how to do it in a way that inspires more hard fun.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Teach part-time course load of two Upper School sections, most likely Algebra II/Algebra II with Trigonometry.
- Attend monthly Department meetings and occasional other required meetings in person or via Zoom.
- Make arrangements to provide extra help for students as needed.
Schedule
This position is suited to a teacher seeking the flexibility of a part-time schedule. St. Luke’s Upper School classes meet 3 times per week for 1 hour each, so the total classroom time is 6 hours per week. In addition, part-time teachers can expect to provide about 2 hours of extra help to students each week, on average. Preparation for classes and grading student work may all be completed at home; part-time employees only have to be on campus to teach their classes and occasionally attend faculty meetings. New employees attend a week-long orientation in August, prior to the start of school.
