Job Title Patient Access Representative Location RWJ New Brunswick (Morris Cancer Center), 165 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 Organization RWJBarnabas Health – Revenue Cycle and Patient Access Employment Type Full‑Time, Hourly Shift Day (5:00 am – 1:30 pm, Monday through Friday; weekend and holiday coverage as needed) Pay Range $20.18 – $25.34 per hour (based on New Jersey experience, education, and professional background) Job Overview The Patient Access Representative coordinates patient registrations and admissions, obtains demographic, financial, and insurance information, and promotes patient satisfaction through timely enrollment. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent Good written and verbal communication skills in English Accurate typing ability Preferred: Service‑oriented background (e.g., previous hospital or physician office experience) Scheduling Requirements Day shift, 5:00 am – 1:30 pm Monday through Friday with weekend (Saturday) and holiday coverage Full‑time, 40 hours per week Essential Functions Interview patients, relatives, or other responsible persons to gather demographic and financial information for processing. Collect required forms, signatures, insurance cards, personal identification, and State of New Jersey Charity Care guideline copies. Obtain insurance information and initiate verification through third‑party clearinghouses. Inform patients of financial responsibility, collect appropriate amounts, and scan insurance cards, proof of address, and personal identification in accordance with hospital policy. Complete Medicare questionnaires for eligible patients; obtain required legal signatures or verbal consent per departmental policy. Follow processes to obtain written or verbal consent for all admissions. Explain federal and state regulations, including Medicare Secondary Payer, New Jersey Charity Care Program, Advance Directives, POLST, HIE/HIO. Comply with procedures related to Advance Directives, POLST TOS collections, latex allergy screening, and the Pneumonia Vaccination Program. Accurately log and scan all patient admission paperwork, distribute completed documents and patient ID cards, and assign patient Medical Record numbers and account numbers. Follow all department policies for complete and accurate patient registrations and downtime procedures.
