Soni Resources is partnering with a client near Matawan, NJ, on the search for a Payroll Accountant . Reporting to the CFO, this position will partner closely with Finance and HR while helping strengthen internal controls, payroll analytics, and reconciliation processes. The organization already has experienced payroll staff supporting day-to-day processing; this role will provide oversight, financial insight, and ownership of payroll-related accounting activities. Responsibilities Oversee and ensure the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly and/or monthly payroll cycles, including earnings, deductions, bonuses, and adjustments. Serve as the primary financial owner of payroll, ensuring payroll data is properly reflected in the general ledger and financial reporting. Prepare and review payroll-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Partner with payroll staff, HR, and Finance to ensure employee data changes (hires, terminations, compensation changes, benefits, leave) are accurately reflected in payroll and accounting records. Perform payroll reconciliations and variance analysis, identifying discrepancies and ensuring proper resolution. Analyze payroll trends and provide insights into labor costs and payroll-related expenses that impact the organization’s financial performance. Establish and maintain strong checks and balances, internal controls, and documentation within payroll processes. Support payroll tax filings, regulatory compliance, and year-end reporting including W-2s and other required filings. Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll and compensation data. Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, reporting, and financial visibility. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. 5+ years of payroll experience, ideally within a complex or high-volume environment. Experience connecting payroll processes with general ledger accounting and financial reporting. Experience working with payroll systems such as ADP, UKG, Paychex, or similar platforms. Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets. Strong understanding of how payroll impacts financial statements and the P&L. Highly analytical with the ability to interpret payroll data and identify trends or discrepancies. Excellent communication skills and ability to present payroll insights clearly to leadership. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to operate with a high level of ownership, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential information. Compensation $90,000 - $120,000 Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications. #J-18808-Ljbffr
