Job Summary

This position independently administers the county-wide payroll function. Serves as an expert on payroll-related matters. Maintains control of payroll records to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the payroll system in conformance with federal and state laws, union contracts, personnel policies and other associated regulations. Reviews and verifies payroll data for County employees from all departments; processes and issues payroll checks. Provides oversight and direction of the work of an Accounting Specialist with regard to payroll. Produces required personnel, payroll, tax and benefits reports. Works with Financial Analyst to produce salary projections for budgeting and contract negotiations.

  • Annual salary range of:
    • $50,624- $73,404
    • This position guaranteestwo salary raises within your first year. Increases are given at the end of the 6 month probationary period and at the 1 year anniversary, as long as your performance is in good standing! Increases are given until the maximum of the salary range is reached.
    • For most employees who take advantage of health benefits the salary only makes up 60% of their total compensation. The County invests in you and your family!

Minimum Qualifications
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
  • Associates' degree in accounting, business or a related field AND
  • 5 years of experience in payroll or finance with 3 years' experience in payroll administration in similar size organization
  • A cover letter is required to be considered for this recruitment.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Please note candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience to be considered as equivalent.

Special Requirements

  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience particularly in payroll and human resource information management systems
  • Governmental experience preferred
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Wage and Hour Laws
  • Excellent analytical, and data entry skills
