As a Payroll Clerk at one of our Alaska facilities, you will be responsible for processing payroll for all employees, ensuring accurate and timely payment. Your duties will include data entry and deductions, process direct deposits, and generating payroll reports. You will also assist with other HR functions as needed, such as time and attendance tracking. Essential Functions / Qualifications Process data entry for multi-state payroll per site, under strict deadlines while ensuring all entries and system outputs follow all state and federal laws. Manage workflows to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely. Verify and approve employee timecards with department heads. Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports. Understand proper taxation of employee paid benefits. Email any correspondence pertaining to plant employee to Corporate Payroll/HR so the correct garnishment calculations and compliance are entered in a timely fashion. Execute time and attendance processing and interface with payroll. Maintaining, creating payroll related procedures and desk manuals. Work with HR/Corporate Payroll to process any final manual checks and relocation metrics. Before payroll processing ensures Corporate Payroll has all files/sheets ready by deadline for accurate uploads. Manage, research and email appropriate audience on file issues or concerns end to end. Respond to and address within department business guidelines any issues and questions regarding payroll from employees and superiors. Other duties as assigned to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful. Competencies Functional Payroll Processing: Proficiency in processing payroll, including calculating wages, deductions, and benefits. Payroll Systems: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and good knowledge of relevant payroll software (e.g., UKG, UltiPro & Paycom). Tax Laws: Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. Data Entry: Accuracy in entering payroll data and maintaining accurate records. Compliance: Adherence to labor laws and regulations. Reporting: Ability to generate various payroll reports, such as payroll registers, tax forms, and employee earnings statements. Interpersonal Confidentiality: Strict adherence to confidentiality policies to protect employee personal information. Dependability: Can be relied on in any given situation from being punctual to following through with tasks. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in payroll processing. Demonstrates ownership, accuracy, and attention for all assigned responsibilities. Problem‑Solving: Ability to identify and resolve payroll issues effectively. Organization: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Communication: Effective communication skills to interact with employees, management, and external agencies. Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with other team members to achieve shared goals. Adaptability: Ability to adapt and contribute to organizational change in a dynamic environment. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent; or relevant field is a plus. Proven experience as a Payroll Clerk processing payroll in UKG, Paycom, ADP. Minimum 2‑3 years’ experience processing multi‑state payroll, Seafood experience a plus. Working knowledge of payroll best practices, including Federal, state, and local compliance requirements. Hands‑on experience with accounting and payroll software. Working knowledge of UKG is a plus. Work Environment and Schedule This position requires flexible and extended hours during the summer fish production season, which can have an expectation of work 7 days a week and the needs of each plant. Season is typically April‑October, maybe longer; this will be determined by fisheries and facility requirements. Physical Demands While performing the essential function and job duties associated with the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Mental Activities The employee is frequently required to set an example by consistently modeling high standards of honesty and integrity. Presentation and sharing of information should be handled in a direct, appropriate, and helpful manner. Maintains a reputation for honesty, confidentiality, reliability, and fairness. Is willing to admit mistakes and does not misrepresent him/herself for personal gain. Performs work with energy and drive; values planning, but will take quick, decisive action when an opportunity presents itself.
