Reporting to the Payroll Coordinator, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for compiling data to maintain payroll records for Tarrant County College District (TCC) employees.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Performance Requirements*
  • Compiles payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance, and deductions to be withheld from time sheets and other records
  • Prepares computer input forms, enters data into computer files, or computes wages and deductions and posts to payroll record
  • Reviews wages computed and correct errors to ensure the accuracy of payroll
  • Records changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records
  • Setup wage attachments and garnishments in compliance with the IRS, Child Support Agencies, Student Loan providers, and Bankruptcy Courts
  • Processes data for new hires, promotions, transfers, demotions, terminations and leave without pay (LWOP)
  • Prorates expenses to be debited or credited to each department for cost accounting records
  • Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions
  • Keeps records of leave pay and nontaxable wages
  • Assist with the distribution of W-2 forms
  • Prepares and issues payments

Service Excellence
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College

Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Payroll Coordinator

  • Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Two (2) years working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree
  • Experience working in higher education
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of payroll practices
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships
  • Skilled in using applications, enterprise and timekeeping systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Ability to be resourceful, work independently and in a team environment, with time-sensitive deadlines
  • Detailed oriented and able to receive sensitive information while maintaining the confidentiality
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables
