We are looking for a PCB Layout Engineer to join Abbott’s Electrical Engineering team in Irving, Texas. Job Summary As a PCB Layout Engineer you will design, draft, and document complex electronic circuit board layouts for Abbott’s medical diagnostic instruments and devices. You’ll collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure optimal electrical, EMI, thermal and structural performance while meeting stringent manufacturing constraints. Key Responsibilities Create footprints per supplier datasheets and IPC standards. Maintain and support the Abbott eCAD Library. Layout complex mixed‑signal, mixed‑technology, high‑density PCB designs. Provide full documentation for fabrication and assembly. Understand pin‑mapping assignments in complex part symbols. Route PCBs for optimal electrical, EMI, thermal and structural performance. Manage design‑rule constraints and perform parasitic analysis. Use third‑party tools for design‑rule checks and insertion of test probes. Interface with vendors, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to import/export fabrication data. Collaborate with mechanical, component, and supplier engineering teams to determine optimum component placement. Coordinate with Operations and Document Control to release drawings. Required Qualifications At least six months of relevant design and manufacturing experience related to medical devices. Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate technologically complex devices. Experience working in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Strong teamwork and individual contributor skills in a fast‑paced, changing environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for multiple organizational levels. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Strong organizational and follow‑up skills with attention to detail. Travel availability of approximately 5%, including international travel. Regular and predictable attendance required. Preferred Qualifications Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in PCB Layout or related field. Experience in a broader enterprise or cross‑division business unit model. Proficiency with Cadence (Concept HDL, Allegro) or Altium Designer. Knowledge of IPC‑7531, IPC‑6011, IPC‑6012, and related IPC standards. Experience with geometric tolerances (ANSI Y14.5). Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools. Familiarity with PLM systems such as Siemens Teamcenter. Compensation Base salary range: $55,300.00 – $110,700.00 (varies by location).
