Job Summary 
Drivers are responsible for the safe transport of all passengers in his/her care to and from destinations. Drivers will ensure that the vehicle is maintained in safe operable condition. This includes any licensing and documentation related to the driver, vehicles, and equipment. Drivers must complete all training and continuing education. 
  
Responsibilities 
  • Drivers shall be trained and know safety standards, vehicle functions, and proper use of fire extinguishers, video equipment, road-side kits, and tablets, prior to shift start. 
  • Safely transport clients and/or packages to and from destinations.
  • Completing shift reports and inputting notes and charge slips in EHR, daily. 
  • Systematically inspect that the vehicles are in safe operating condition. Including fire extinguishers, video equipment, road-side kits, phones, and tablets. 
  • Must complete all driver training and continuing education. 
  • Ride-share Agreements and Patient Checklists to be accurate and completed by all participants using Horizon Health transportation. 
  • Trips are coordinated and approved through dispatcher only. Any additional trips must be approved through dispatch prior to starting.  
  • Driver shall not use alcohol, narcotics, illegal drugs, or any drugs that impair the ability to perform his/her safety-sensitive duties.
  •  Screening includes pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident testing. 
  • Must always wear name tags and/or company photo identification while on duty. 
  • Each driver shall be competent in their driving habits; be courteous, patient, and helpful to all passengers; and be neat and clean in appearance. 
  • At no time shall a driver or passenger use tobacco products, eat, or consume any beverage while in the vehicle in the presence of any recipient. 
  • Each driver shall properly identify and announce their presence at the entrance of the specified pick-up location if a curbside pick-up is not apparent. Call and/or horn. 
  • Safety belts must always be worn. 
  • Other duties as assigned.  
Education and Experience 
  • High school Diploma or G.E.D. Preferred 
  • Peer Support Specialist Certificate
  • First Aid/ CPR 
  • Opioid Overdose Response 
  • Valid Driver’s License 
Physical Requirements 
  • Frequent sitting with occasional standing and walking for 8-10 hour shifts. 
  • Frequent use of fine motor skills to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and ability to reach with hands and arms on a regular basis. Intermittently required to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds.  
  • Consistently required to talk and/or hear.   
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus along with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures and/or instructions.  
  
Required Skills/Abilities 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills   
  • Complete Background check, including driving history 
  • Complete Drug Screen 
  • Excellent navigation skills and proficiency in using navigation applications to find delivery locations
