THE POSITION

PennDOT is seeking a Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee in Beaver County! As a TEOT, you will embark on a journey to develop your skills, knowledge, and obtain the necessary licensure to excel as a proficient Transportation Equipment Operator. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This is a comprehensive six-month trainee position that involves operating construction and maintenance equipment on highways. This includes using plow attachments to remove snow from roadways and bridges during winter operations. You will also operate loaders and other equipment and must become certified on at least two additional pieces of equipment during the probationary period. You will also perform manual labor duties on a highway or bridge maintenance crew, such as flagging and traffic control. You will receive training and certification to operate heavy construction equipment, including heavy trucks and loaders. You will become proficient in pre- and post-operation checks, making necessary adjustments for safe operation, and minimizing wear. Additionally, you will learn to use hand and foot controls, install and remove tire chains, and use various hand tools properly.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.,
  • Subject to change due to weather/season.
  • Dual shifts, overtime, and travel may be required.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • No minimum experience and training required.

Special Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Drivers License or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learners Permit on the first day of work.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
