Position: Perioperative Float RN- Day Surgery

Status/Shift: Full-time, Day Shift, 7:30am - 4:00pm 

 

Join our dynamic Day Surgery team at Baylor Scott & White Buda Medical Center where no two days are the same! This Monday–Friday position offers a 7:30 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. with flexibility based on department needs. The role includes an on-call requirement of 6–8 days, which includes a weekend rotation (Friday–Sunday) and one major and one minor holiday. Our department features 5 pre-op bays, 3 ORs, 1 endoscopy suite, and 5 PACU bays, supporting a variety of procedures including General Surgery, Podiatry, Orthopedics, Urology, and Sports Medicine.

This role functions as a cross-trained Float RN supporting multiple perioperative areas, including Pre-Op, PACU, Endoscopy, and Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), with primary focus on Pre-Op, PACU, and Endoscopy. This position is ideal for a nurse seeking flexibility within perioperative services and the opportunity to gain experience across multiple specialties in a small hospital environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong critical care background, with PACU experience preferred, and demonstrate reliability, collaboration, and alignment with a small, close-knit team culture at Baylor Scott & White Health in Buda, Texas. This individual must be comfortable managing shifting priorities and understand the importance of cross-coverage in a resource-conscious setting.

This role offers the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills across perioperative areas while supporting a strong team environment and work–life balance. Candidates will participate in peer interviews with representatives from each service area to discuss role expectations and team fit.

Job Summary

As a Procedural Registered Nurse, work as a licensed professional using the nursing practice model to oversee patient care. Responsibilities include assessing patients, identifying nursing diagnoses, and developing personalized care plans. Regularly assess patient responses. Contributions help patients navigate healthcare safely by understanding their needs and the system. This prevents complications and delays. Delegate tasks based on Texas nursing laws, patient conditions, and staff skills.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • As a Procedural Registered Nurse, use careful clinical judgment. Assess patients and prioritize their needs. Create and adjust care plans for better results.
  • You will assess your nursing practices to ensure quality and effectiveness. This may involve tracking indicators, making changes based on research, and joining quality improvement initiatives.
  • You'll help teach patients and staff. Education will be integrated into care at all levels.
  • In systems thinking, you will use strategies and resources to solve problems for patients, families, and staff.
  • Finally, your professionalism enhances nursing practice and work environment. Contribute to decision-making, recognize others' contributions meaningfully.

  • Having an in-depth understanding of nursing as well as patient care standards and procedures is crucial.
  • Understanding legal, regulatory, and professional standards is important in every profession. Certification and accreditation requirements are also crucial. Familiarity with departmental policies is vital.

  • A knack for addressing problems with critical thinking is essential.
  • It is necessary to monitor patients' health and communicate changes efficiently to nursing staff and healthcare providers.
