Mackinac Straits Health Evergreen Living Center is a long term care center is a 48 bed skilled nursing facility located at 1140 North State Street as part of the hospital campus in St. Ignace. It is an Eden Alternative Certified Community and also a CMS 5-Star Rated Nursing Home! Services include: dual license for both skilled and basic care, long term care as well as short term rehab care, accommodations for residents requiring Hospice Care, nursing care, restorative care, activities and Social Services. The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all nursing services in a nursing home or long-term care facility. The DON ensures high-quality resident care, compliance with federal and state regulations, and effective leadership of nursing staff. This position is very hands on, working directly with our staff, residents and family members.
The Director of Nursing at the Evergreen Living Center's responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
- Oversee all nursing services to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate resident care.
- Ensure proper assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of resident care.
- Monitor resident outcomes and address quality-of-care concerns.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Supervise and support nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and nurse managers).
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate nursing staff.
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive work environment.
- Address staff performance issues and conduct disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS, state health departments).
- Prepare for and participate in surveys, inspections, and audits.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures consistent with regulations.
- Lead quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
