JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Personal Injury Paralegal to join our growing legal team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting attorneys in all aspects of personal injury cases, from initial client intake through case resolution, including settlement negotiations, trial preparation, and post-trial matters. The role demands a proactive individual with strong organizational skills, a comprehensive understanding of personal injury law, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, and experts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage personal injury case files from inception through resolution, ensuring all necessary documents and evidence are compiled, organized, and timely filed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, updating them on case progress, answering questions, and providing general case information. Ensure clients are informed and comfortable throughout the process.
- Conduct legal research related to case law, statutes, and procedural rules in personal injury matters. Assist attorneys in evaluating legal issues and formulating strategies.
- Prepare and draft legal documents such as complaints, answers, motions, settlement demand letters, discovery responses, and medical record summaries. Ensure all documents comply with legal formatting and procedural standards.
- Assist in preparing and managing discovery requests (interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission), as well as gathering medical records, police reports, and expert testimony. Organize and manage evidence for trial.
- Prepare exhibits, witness lists, deposition summaries, and trial notebooks. Assist attorneys during trial preparation and provide support during depositions and hearings.
- Collaborate with attorneys in negotiating settlements. Help to prepare settlement proposals and calculate damages, including medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
- File legal documents with appropriate courts, ensuring compliance with filing deadlines, rules, and procedures. Track case deadlines and milestones to ensure timely action.
- Maintain detailed and accurate case files, ensuring all documents are up to date and readily accessible. Handle confidential information with the utmost professionalism and integrity.
- Coordinate with medical professionals, accident reconstruction experts, and other relevant parties to obtain expert opinions and testimony for case evaluation or trial preparation.
- Provide administrative assistance as needed, such as managing calendars, scheduling appointments, and preparing attorney's trial or deposition.
Qualifications:
- Experience working as a personal injury paralegal, with a strong understanding of personal injury law, litigation processes, and legal procedures.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal court rules, procedures, and filing requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, insurance companies, and court staff.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with legal research tools and legal documentation preparation.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
