Job Description

The Well Done Foundation Petroleum Engineer will oversee day-to-day activities related to overall P&A operations for each well site within the Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge project.  This role focuses on providing technical support for surface and downhole activities and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.  The successful candidate will assist with planning elements, including permitting, plug plans, and safety plans, and regulatory submittals.   Overall coordination of project team members, contractors and stakeholders.  This role also requires the coordination and communication of project team members, contractors and other stakeholders and will report to Well Done Foundation management.

The ideal candidate is practical, safety-minded, and capable of working independently in the field, and has relevant project and/or oilfield experience. While advanced credentials are not required, the role requires sound judgment, strong field awareness, and a willingness to learn and adapt.


Position Key Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate overall planning and environmental support with WDF team, contractor personnel, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and oil & gas environmental regulations, including the Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge.
  • Provide technical support on downhole plugging operations, including the development of initial plug plans.
  • Provide technical support on access and well pad construction, as well as other surface activities.
  • Work with WDF safety representative to plan, implement, and track safety requirements and reporting.
  • Keep accurate daily records of surface and downhole activity regarding P&A operations (access, well preparation, cleanout, wireline services, cementing, restoration).
  • Complete and submit required regulatory documents regarding well P&A (notices and reports).
  • Interface with regulatory agencies regarding downhole P&A decisions and operations. 
  • Provide feedback on site conditions, crew needs, and schedule updates. 
  • Promote safe work practices and help train crew members in field protocols. 
  • Coordinate with WDF environmental team on tasks such as erosion control, debris cleanup, and restoration of sites. 
  • Take photographs and record informational videos for social media outreach.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Position Qualifications 

Minimum Requirements 

  • Relevant experience in oil and gas operations, construction, environmental, agriculture, land management, or similar roles.
  • Ability to work outdoors in Oklahoma weather conditions, often in remote locations.
  • Basic understanding of field safety practices and willingness to complete required training (H2S, OSHA, First Aid, CPR).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with field crews and project staff.
  • Ability to support and coordinate day-to-day field activities and provide input on site conditions and logistics.
  • Comfortable using basic digital tools for documentation, reporting, and communication (e.g., tablets, GPS, Microsoft Office).
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and reliable transportation.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, geology, environmental science, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
  • Experience with project and/or construction management.
  • Experience with oil & gas well plugging & abandonment, workover, cleanout, or drilling operations.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas well plugging regulations (e.g., Oklahoma Corporation Commission).
  • Experience with site restoration practices, including erosion control, debris removal, and reseeding.
  • Familiarity with working in conservation areas or wildlife refuges.

Position Working Conditions 

  • Primarily field-based work across the Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge.
  • Outdoor work in remote locations under variable conditions, including heat, cold, mud, brush, and uneven terrain.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of 40+ lbs. (equipment, tools, and materials).
  • Periodic office or administrative tasks, including record organization, data entry, and participation in meetings.


Position Compensation 

  • $35.00/hr. starting, depending upon experience.
  • Company Vehicle.
  • Per diem for travel and field assignments (if required).
  • Opportunities for training and professional development.
