The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Phlebotomist

WORK SCHEDULE
  • Part Time
  • Day Shift

    WHAT WE OFFER

    REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school graduation AND completion of a phlebotomy course OR equivalent education/experience.

    LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Current Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy Certification (MA-P) with the Washington State Department of Health, OR obtain the MA-P within 60 days of start date.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collects blood with venipuncture and microtechniques on adults, children and infants.
  • May be trained to instruct the patients in the proper sample collection techniques for samples they collect.
  • Greets and checks in patients, verifying all order information is correct.
  • Receives submitted samples from clinic staff. Verifies proper labeling.
  • Cleans and stocks blood draw area on a daily basis.
  • May learn to accept and verify lab orders utilizing the Epic/Sunquest interface. Can identify problem orders.
  • Handles routine phone calls and communicates with clinic staff , physicians and patients in a courteous, professional manner. Refers phone calls where appropriate.
  • Performs filing and other clerical tasks as needed.
  • Follows universal precautions. Uses personal protective equipment when indicated. Is knowledgeable of safety practices.
  • Assists with orientation and training of new employees and students.
  • Support service and UWAMC goals, service efficiency, and effectiveness through such activities as: participating in problem solving, demonstrating support for policies, sharing expertise, and contributing to project work and committees;
  • Promote and contribute to the development of teamwork in the service and working relationships between the laboratory and other departments;
  • Form productive working relationships with co-workers. Communicate clearly, directly and on a timely basis;
  • Act as role model/mentor to new phlebotomists.
  • Open to receiving feedback and making constructive changes as a result;
  • Open to receiving direction and asks for assistance when needed;
  • Demonstrate a courteous, respectful, professional behavior at all times.
  • Represent the Department professionally;
