Luria Academy of Brooklyn

We are seeking a passionate and collaborative teacher to join our Physical Education team for the 2023-2024 academic year. Essential duties include: (1) planning and preparation of materials, classroom instruction with an eye towards differentiated and progressive practices (2) active participation in curriculum development, pedagogy, and best practices.

Successful candidates will possess a growth mindset, self-motivation, curiosity and openness to new ideas, excellent oral and written communication skills, and comfort in a school setting where childrens learning and experiences are central to educational decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director to conduct Physical Education classes for students ranging from two-year-olds to eighth-graders.
  • Co-create a Physical Education and Fitness curriculum that aligns with grade-level standards.
  • Teach students the fundamental techniques required to participate in team sports and other recreational activities.
  • Organize and supervise after-school sports clubs for students from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
  • Coach Middle School Athletics, with a preference for candidates with experience in cross country, soccer, and basketball.

Qualifications

  • Possess an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or Coaching.
  • Have 1-5 years of experience in teaching and/or coaching in Physical Education and/or Athletics.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques involved in individual and team sports.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Be capable of adapting and improvising lessons to accommodate time and/or space constraints.
  • Provide constructive feedback in a way that advances students' knowledge, skills, and confidence.
  • Possess a passion for teaching and a willingness to continue learning.
