Job Summary (Physician Corrections)

- Provide comprehensive medical care to inmates/residents, including examinations, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
- Oversee and direct the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services Supervisor.
- Monitor standards of care and review health operations within the facility.
- Participate in treatment planning, clinical rounds, and treatment team meetings.
- Perform minor and occasional major surgeries as needed.
- Guide and support nursing staff, providing clinical direction and protocols.
- Develop and implement facility medical policies and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records; audit documentation for quality assurance.
- Monitor hospitalizations, catastrophic illnesses, and ensure efficient use of medical services.
- Foster positive working relationships with staff, outside providers, and hospital/agency administrators.
- Facilitate accreditation processes (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) for the medical program.
- Accept on-call responsibilities and respond to emergencies as required.
- Provide health counseling, education, and promote preventive care.
- Communicate effectively with staff, inmates, administration, outside agencies, and visitors.
- Participate in staff training, meetings, and maintain operational consistency across shifts.
- Respond to lawsuits, legal documents, and participate in court hearings as necessary.
- Prepare and submit necessary reports, including safety and incident reports.
- Inspect medical units for security, manage supplies, and adhere to contraband control protocols.
- Maintain alertness and readiness to perform rescue and emergency functions.
- Handle high-stress and antagonistic situations with professionalism and sound judgment.
- Travel domestically as required for job duties and professional development.

Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited medical school.
- Licensed to practice medicine in Texas.
- Valid driver's license.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
