Position Summary:
MPCs Mandan Refinery located in Mandan, North Dakota is seeking a maintenance craft worker who specializes in pipefitting. Ensures the safe, environmentally sound and reliable operations of their assigned areas at the Mandan Refinery. Fabricate, assemble, install, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various types piping and piping systems at the facility. This position will primarily perform general plant maintenance.
This position reports to Area Maintenance Foreman, located in Mandan, ND.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and plan pipe system layout, fabrication, installation, or repair according to specifications.
  • Accurately cut, fit-up, two hole and configure offsets in piping assembles.
  • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by means of welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
  • Cut and thread pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, pipe threaders and benders.
  • Maintain and test installed systems and pipelines, using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other defined methods.
  • Anticipate problems in advance and respond to problems in an efficient manner, adapting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Recognize various materials used in piping systems and demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate material handling techniques for systems of steam, hot water, heating/cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing.
  • Identify, select, and demonstrate safe usage of power tools appropriate for the job (grinders, tools, guards, wire wheels etc.)
  • Understands pipe and fitting terminology. Maintain ability to communicate corrective actions and recommendations concerning piping and piping systems.
  • Ability read and interpret isometric, blueprints and manufacturers specifications for installing and repairing equipment.
  • Accurately perform field measurements and sketches of piping and systems associated.
  • General Craft work to include Blinding, Heat Exchanger Maintenance, Steam Tracing Repairs, etc.
  • Attend and participate in morning toolbox talks and safety meetings.
Education and Experience:
  • HS Diploma or GED Required.
  • 2+ years industrial pipefitting or plumbing experience required.
  • Trade school, journeyman, or apprentice training in pipefitter or plumbing field required.
  • NCCER Certification is preferred
  • Valid drivers license required.
Skills:
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills in safe rigging practices.
  • Must be willing and able to climb ladders, work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must be willing and able to physically perform all duties required which may involve (among others): bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying loads up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work overtime, work after hour callouts, and occasional plant shutdowns/startups.
  • Ability to work efficiently and safely alone as well as part of a team.
Pay and Benefits:
Employees with Pipefitter work experience who are qualified can start at $36.64 - $42.48. The maximum rate for the position is $50.35 with demonstrated qualification/proficiency after being hired. Annual increases are scheduled.
